Signs Dryer Vent is Clogged

When your dryer vent is clogged, there will be one or more of these signs that indicate that you have a problem.
– Hot Dryer: When your dryer is finished with a cycle, it shouldn’t be hot to the touch. If you touch the top of it and feel heat, it means there is likely a clog in your vent and the heat isn’t being circulated out like it should. Likewise, the clothes inside the dryer shouldn’t be really hot to the touch either.
– Longer Drying Times: You clothes should be able to be dried within a normal 35-40 minute cycle. If it is all of a sudden taking longer than that, you could have a problem. You can usually troubleshoot this problem by removing the vent hose from the back of the dryer to test its performance. If it dries much quicker, you know there is something obstructing the dryer vent.
– Accumulated Lint: If you look at the vent opening on the outside of your home, there shouldn’t be a bunch of lint that has gathered around the opening. Open the door and see if you can see lint inside.
– Burning Smell: You should never smell something burning when you are using your dryer. Because line is so flammable, you should immediately turn off the dryer when you smell something burning. It is wise to avoid running the dryer while you are sleeping at night or while you are out of the house just in case there were ever any problem.
